To maximise the solar gain in conjunction with your lifestyle ensure that all rooms using hot water should be clustered together to increase the energy efficiency of the hot water with short pipe runs.

This also reduces the ‘lag’ before hot water can be drawn from a tap. All your daily living areas should be on the northern or western side of the house. Bedrooms and service areas (laundry and garages) should be on the southern and eastern part of the house.
