Jeremy and Sarah Kerr

Thanks to the expertise of a Right House specialist, Jeremy Kerr and his wife, Sarah are now enjoying a warm and energy efficient home in the picture perfect town of West Melton, just outside of Christchurch.

The Kerr's were building their new home and approached Right House to help ensure that they ended up with a home which was both warm, energy efficient and cost effective to run, as well as being kinder to the environment.  Thanks to Right House, Jeremy and Sarah got the energy-efficiency solution they had been looking for with minimal fuss and hassle.

By working with Right House, the Kerr's transformation to their energy-efficient house was a simple one.  The Kerr's worked with Right House from the start of their project to consider the house's location, design and interior lay out in order to achieve a fully integrated and energy-efficient solution.

When building their house, the Kerr's worked with Right House to determine the finest of details.  It was decided to build facing the north to capture maximum solar gain.  Double glazed windows were installed throughout and two polished concrete block walls and ceramic tiles were specifically located in the central of the house's design to take advantage of thermal mass insulation.  Once the outside was decided, the focus moved inside to concentrate on improved heating options.

"Throughout the whole process Right House kept us very informed.  They took the hard work out of the equation and outlined a range of suitable heating options to fit within our budget."

Jeremy and Sarah are now enjoying their new warm house.  Their Right House solution focused on three areas; wool installation, solar hot water and underfloor central heating system.  With these three areas working in harmony together, the Kerr's are experiencing reduced power bills, as well as easing their green conscience.

Instead of opting for the conventional heat pump, the Kerr's preferred the idea of the hydronic central heating system.  Jeremy says, "Energy efficiency was our main driver but we also wanted to ensure that we kept a modern and minimalistic look to the house.  The solution to use a central heating system was the perfect option for us as it meant we didn't need to have a wall mounted heat pump."

Right House doesn't just recommend homeowner with tailored solutions; experts install all products to ensure that they are all working at optimum output.  Jeremy notes, "Since having all of the heating components working together, we have achieved a much more even temperature of heat throughout the house - each room is heated effectively and efficiently to avoid that frosty winter chill!"
