Meridian supporting Earth Hour

Today PM Helen Clark will launch New Zealand's first Earth Hour. Meridian is proud to support this event and to assist in raising awareness of energy efficiency. Meridian will be supporting Earth Hour in Christchurch from 8-9pm on Saturday 29 March to further show their commitment to energy efficiency.

Earth Hour is a one hour ‘switch off' campaign, launched in Sydney a year ago. Energy consumption dropped by 10% for the hour. It's becoming a global movement and it is expected that between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday 29 March millions of people across the world will switch off lights and non-essential appliances for Earth Hour.

Earth Hour in Christchurch is a joint initiative from The Press and World Wildlife Fund (NZ) and is also supported by ECan, Christchurch City Council, Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Christchurch Cathedral and Orion. Orion will be recording the decrease in energy consumption.

Meridian will be telling their customers on the Orion network about Earth Hour and hope many of them will show their support. They are also hoping their staff will switch off at home. And will be making sure the lights are not glaring at Meridian sites.
